I think Marie's message was very revealing of a population that I didn't
know existed or is growing.
I also think Elisheva's message about followup was extremely pertinent.
remember the old saying that a job wasn't finished until the paperwork was
done? Well an LCs job isn't finished until baby is happily at breast. You
can't leave follow up to a mom who doesn't know the whole picture and will
have the sense to pursue more help. (Immediate pp moms sometimes don't
have any sense left :-)

Whenever I have worked with a mom in this situation I explain that the goal
is to get baby on breast, but first we have to feed baby and let baby get
over whatever it was that made them hate the breast. This requires lots of
close follow up and if the LC can't do it, then she needs to be sure that
mom is connected to someone else. It is not up to mom to make the call!
They are usually overwhelmed, physically and emotionally with coping and
they can't make the contact. This is the LCs responsibility - to make
follow up happen. At least that's my opinion. Sincerely, Pat in SNJ
