I've been enjoying the discussion on LACTNET for the past several weeks. And I'm very grateful for the many suggestions that I have received to help me with my qualitative research on acute cessation of breastfeeding. But as an unapologetic member of the medical profession and simultaneously an advocate for breastfeeding families, I felt I needed to point out that posts like the one below seem inconsistent with the extensive LACTNET usage guidelines that I received when I first subscribed. Examples: "GENERAL LACTNET DON'T'S... a. Bash other professionals, no matter how high your level of aggravation" "Naming names in a derogatory way is not acceptable on LACTNET. Neither is bashing of one group or another...such as doctors, LLLers, ILCA, WIC personnel, etc. " Remaining subscribed for a while . . . --Chris Ryan, MD Family Physician SUNY Upstate Medical University Clinical Campus . . . Because no one calls them on it. I, for one, am waiting for that first big suit. (Well publicized I hope) $ speaks louder to HCPs than all of our education or their guidelines! And BF takes too long to help in the office! Time is money. AIM is quick and easy, requires no thought or work (and cynically - gets you lots of repeat business as you try formulas and take care of otitis and other increased ills.) Personally I just wish they'd keep their mouths shut, formula in the cupboard and refer the mom! That's what I try to do.
