To the collective brain, I have done an archival search and have some info but I was hoping to get a little more. I am working with a 2 month old breastfeeding very well, but she has essentially a single functional ventricle, treated similar to a hypoplastic left heart. She is on meds, but is still symptomatic with resp problems, sweating, etc during feeds. Obvious signs of fluid overload. She sees Cardiologist on thursday, so I need prompt reply if able. Cardio wants to have mom stop bfdg and begin pumping and giving all EBM with fortifier in bottle. Hopefully more calories, less fluid. They are of course assuming 20kcal breastmilk only. My question, for preemies, I know we have lots of documentation on bfdg vs bottle fdg, re: sats and calorie expenditure, but what about an older child? I hope to present some hard evidence to my ped and the cardiologist to cont bfdg at the breast. I think pumping every feeding is too much for this mom but I want to do what is best for kid. Giving formula was never a discussed option, they KNOW they want to use EBM!! Thanks in advance!
