Many thanks to everyone who has replied to my request for information about Remicade. I have shared it with her, and also the anecdotal information about the use of human milk to treat gut disorders. The mother took her first dose of the medication on Friday, and is tolerating it well. Her doctor plans to give her another dose on Friday week (2 week interval). She is on an IV and not eating anything *to rest her gut.* She is considering using human milk after the course of treatment and will discuss this with her doctor. We know the mother of a premature baby (now home) who has lots of extra milk in the freezer that she stored while her baby was in the hospital. *(More on this below!) She decided to temporarily wean her 2 year old. You can imagine how hard this is on both of them. My own daughter, Chana, is home from college, and volunteered to take care of the baby during the day so that his father could go back to work. Yesterday afternoon she called to say that he had finally fallen asleep in her arms. Now she knows - from both sides! - how important nursing is to a toddler! * This mother, who gave birth to an almost 6lb baby at 34 weeks, was told by the lactation consultant at the hospital that her baby would probably have to be supplemented with formula becomes her *hormones* would prevent her from producing enough milk. When her baby left the hospital two weeks later, they had to give her a cooler to fetch home all the milk she had stored in their freezer! Could this have been because she was pumping every two hours, with two four hour breaks at night, instead of every four hours with one 8 hour break as they suggested? Hmmmm....
