Thanks for posting about this, Lisa. After skimming it looks an interesting and useful document in many ways. I have some reservatuions about the whole topic of sub-clinical mastitis -- which is of great interest as a possible method of HIV-transmission from women to their babies. I do worry that this might come into the catagory described by Penny van Esterik as 'pathologising the normal'. Great that this is on the internet -- do you, or anyone, know if two other WHO publications referenced (you know you are sad when you read the references more thoroughly than the document!) : 1998, 'Relactation: a review of experience and recommendation for practice' and 2000, 'HIV and Infant feeding counselling: a trianing course' -- or would one have to order/request from Geneva (I searched WHO site, but could not spot these docs...or an email address to enquire).
