I enjoyed reading Chris's comments about the JAMA article on breastfeeding.
This article was accompanied by a patient education handout called feeding
your newborn. It is on-line at
http://www.ama-assn.org/consumer.htm.

I ventured out of my quiet hole to send a comment on-line to let them know
that this was not a useful handout for my patients. Most of my patients are
healthy with no apparent reason not to breastfeed. If a patient does have
HIV, Hep B,Smoke etc. or take medication, that I do research with *you* to
find out what would be best for a particular mother instead of making a
blanket statement that she can't give her baby any breastmilk.

I let them know I would share the website with you. I am brief b/c I am off
to work this morning.Check out the handout.
