Just saw the program.... Gut wrenching... Yes, the LC looks awful - No questions about diapers and stools, no follow up weight checks. Talking to the mother about the benefits of breastfeeding during a visit that I suppose would have reflected a 10% weight loss and a "feed the baby" type of intervention. They also mentioned a "contract" - similar to the ER episode. Does anyone have any hospital with such a contract? Where do these writers get that idea? I would love to see a "source" for that information - I bet it is labled "ye olde formula company rep". But the reality is, our women (especially those of low income who have few financial resources) do not have the safety net they need when they are trying to breastfeed. Few have help at home, even fewer know how to access help in the form ( in our county) of WIC, our health plan, Public Health Nursing, etc. If only they would have given a "solution" in the form of home visitors, automatic health care for all babies, etc. Feeling sad tonight.. :-( Jeanette Panchula, BSW, RN, IBCLC Vacaville, CA mailto:[log in to unmask] *********************************************** The LACTNET mailing list is powered by L-Soft's renowned LISTSERV(R) list management software together with L-Soft's LSMTP(TM) mailer for lightning fast mail delivery.
