On one of my other lists someone posted this as a possible substitute for commercial formula. The reason someone needed a substitute is they are pregnant and their child is 9 months old. Their supply has dropped substantially and nursing is becoming much more painful for mom now entering her second trimester. My understanding is this is put forth by a *Doctor (who) is a die hard vegan and macrobiotic supporter and really believes in good diet*. So what do you think? > it follows the macrobiotic/vegan approach. > > Here is her recipe for breast milk substitute for newborns and older > > 1 1/4 cups organic short grain brown rice* > 1 cup organic sweet rice* > 1/2 cup organic hulled barley* > 3 inch piece kombu seaweed, rinsed > 1 cup washed, roasted and blanched almonds > 16 cups purified water > > * well washed and soaked together for 2-3 hours > > - Bring water and washed grains to a boil in a pressure cooker skimming off any > foam that rises to the top. > - Add rinsed piece of kombu and blanced almonds. > - Seal cooker and bring up to pressure.
