I am just starting out (ie I am just finding out how much I don't know
about BF) and have a client who has a 2mo boy (her 3rd breastfed child) and
has recently returned to RN work on a med-surg floor. She can only pump
during her lunch break. She has been pumping for a month in anticipation
of returning to work. For the last 2 weeks, her supply on one side while
pumping has disappeared. She still gets milk when the baby is nursing,
feeling a let-down and hearing swallowing. She doesn't have any plugged
ducts that we can find. She has been on fenugreek for one week, but does
not feel like it is making any difference. She is using an electric pump,
but admits it is a cheap version. I advised to always start on the
affected side, to pump while nursing at home, and to look into getting a
hospital grade pump. What am I missing?
