I received an e-mail from a colleague about a petition to sign about the
"sex, violence, profanity and just plain trash" that is on television and
the effect it is having on society and our children. It encouraged me to
sign a petition through OneMillionMoms.com and OneMillionDads.com to exert
influence on TV programming. This sounded good, and I read on as I am one
who actually only lets my kids watch videos and rarely network TV because I
don't like its content. But then the example they give was rather
disturbing to me. It seemed a strange one to pick. It described a mother
going into a school to complain about a column in the student newspaper
about "breast orgasms." The school secretary says that it's better than
letting the boy in her pants. Then a substitute teacher, Mrs. Peters, asks
Vice Pricipal Guber what he plans to do about the sex column. This
conversation is quoted:

VP Guber: "I don't know yet....Is it really possible? A woman can climax
simply by having her breasts touched?"

Mrs. Peters: "The nipple is connected to the same nervous system. Many
women experience uterine contractions when the breasts are stimulated. It's
common for mothers to enjoy orgasm when they are nursing their babies."

VP Guber: "Really?"

Mrs. Peters: "I had them with Jeremy all the time."

This was evidently an episode of Boston Public from FOX. I'm not saying
it's something for kids to watch but the e-mail for the petition goes on to
say "Yes, as incredible as it may seem, this dialogue actually took place
during a time slot when many children watch TV. I have learned that the
only way to effectively counteract such filth is to focus on the sponsors of
the TV shows."

I just thought it was an odd topic to pick as an example of "filth" of all
the possible ones they could have chosen. It's also a pretty weird
conversation. Can you imagine a substitute teacher deciding to discuss her
orgasms with the male vice principal? But mainly I think it's unfortunate
that they had to choose anything to do with breastfeeding in their example
of "filth" to get people to sign a petition about inappropriate television
for children.
