Brenda,
This may not apply to your situation in the least, but thought it might be
good to consider. The very first baby I ever suggested see a chiropractor
years ago was one with a very receded chin. It was mom's second baby, she
had nursed the first for close to two years, but this one was unable to get
it right. Didn't nurse at all for a day or two and when she did baby just
killed mom's nipples. She had such a "small mouth." After a couple of
weeks of going back & forth with pumping and healing and redamaging, and my
doing everything I could think of at that time, I suggested she see a
chiropractor.

Birth had been easy and *quick*. Mom had questioned me and baby's doctor
about how receded baby's chin was, but both of us thought it was not
abnormal. After one visit to the chiro mom called to tell me that baby's
chin was no longer so pushed in-looking, baby's cry was no longer so
high-pitched, and nursing was much more comfortable. The chin/jaw was
*not* okay, but had been apparently pushed out of whack during the
precipitous delivery. Baby had about 3-4 visits to the chiro total, during
which time the nursing became completely comfortable.

There have been several others since this one; sometimes the jaw is only
pushed out on one side, sometimes both. If you've ever had or known
someone with TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems, this will make perfect
sense--you can't open your mouth very wide, and your jaw hurts.
