Good evening all. I write from Oberlin, where my daughter auditions
tomorrow. I am glad that this list can provide help to some of our
subscribers...as that was and is my goal.... Since starting it 10 years ago
this coming March. I realize we cannot be all things to all people.... And
I accept that, as a volunteer listmother. The guidelines we have in place
are there to make the list as hospitable as we can to as many subscribers as
possible. Again, fully realizing that not everyone will be comfortable at
every moment.

I do try my best to keep the list moving along well, with the help of the
other volunteers who donate their time... Keeping a minimal amount of stuff
that is non-lactation related. And, although I would love to support all the
good causes in the world, I cannot through do this through Lactnet...which
does not invalidate all the good and worthy causes in the world.

Cindy Curtis' website is one of the very valuable causes that I support, on
a daily basis, by sending as many as 900 mothers there per month...mothers
who can then support her website by purchasing books there. I have been
doing this for the past several years, month by months..... As my way of
supporting this valuable resource. I do this through my work as online
nurse lactation consultant (independent consultant) for Medela. My work
there is as the person who reads and personally answers (along with my
partner, Mary Bibb) approximately 900 emails per month from mothers who come
to the website and ask questions. Anyone can send mothers to the website if
I can be of help.

As I care for Lactnet on a daily basis, 7 days a week, I also answer email
for mothers 7 days a week, barring a few days off here and there. I am
fortunate to do this work, and am proud of what I do for mothers who ask for
my help. I also write and edit evidence based FAQs. I have a private
practice here in Vermont, as a lactation consultant, and I teach
breastfeeding classes, and am about to be a labor doula as well. This I
incorporate into my life as my children get older and go to college
(amazingly.)

If anyone has any questions that I can help with, I would be most happy to
answer them via private email if I know the answer. I am still learning, and
I am grateful to everyone on Lactnet who offer such great informative and
experiential notes...

I rarely mention my consultant work for Medela on Lactnet, as I keep it
separate from Lactnet, not wanting to mix the two... I feel it is
unprofessional to mix my work with my volunteer work. I only mention it now
because I've been asked.I am proud of all the work I do, both for pay and
for volunteer. Please email privately if I can be of help.

Kind regards, and somewhat puzzled by the criticism, but heh, that's life..
The Lactnet guidelines are in place to keep the balance on this list. Sorry
if they don't' fit, but please let's not get into a public "poll." I welcome
all input privately, and if anyone has anything to add to Cindy's comments,
I welcome all comments. I especially appreciate it when people tell me if
they have an issue, rather than telling me that others agree, etc. Whatever.
A productive dialogue can then occur.

Best, Kathleen
