Also,  "A Guide to Effective Care in Pregnancy and Childbirth", has 
something in Chapter 34, Control of pain in labour.  This is an actual 
book that has been put on the web for all to read.  this is Chapter 34.

These will probably have other studies etc that you can get if needed.
