Dear Lactnetters,

An acquaintance is planning to adopt a baby that is *due* to be born in 2
weeks. She just began to consider BF. She would like to discuss this with a
mom who has used the SNS to BF an adopted newborn. Does anyone know someone
who might be interested in discussing her experience via e-mail?

I'd like more info on when to start pumping, how often, which pump to use
and what to expect for milk production? When will the milk start to flow?
How much will she need to supplement and how often? Will she produce
colostrum?

Also any experience, advice and/or suggestions on facilitating the
transition from birthmom to adoptive mom are welcomed.

The adoptive mom prefers that the birth take place in the hospital while
there is a good chance that the baby will be birthed at home with the
possible presence of adoptive mom. (Birth mom has birthed 5 babies and is
quite a distance from hospital.) It is also possible that the birth will
happen and adoptive mother will be notified later (one day or even one
week.)

I will meet with both birth and adoptive mom for the first time this week.

This is the first time I have worked from the side of the adoptive mom so
this is a learning experience for me. I am encouraging her to BF and want to
provide her with the best possible reasons and support for doing so.

Sincerely,
