Nikki,
As an LC I see the problems and the possibilities.
As a mom I live in denial they could exist.

When my twins were born, and there was obviously no milk by day 4 I still
denied it as much as I could in my "mom" mind as my LC mind was arguing and
pushing me to action.  I cannot tell you how hard it is to be the mom with
the problem.  Nothing you could do or say would make it better really.  Even
those who tried to be such wonderful support only added to my reality that I
had a problem as I was so actively trying to deny it exsisted.

Try to remember that she is postpartum, emotionally distraught at the pain of
not having enough to feed her child and it is truly painful to have to know
that...And, in the long run your responsibility to notify her physician and
protect the baby were real.
Had you done things differently the doc would be blaming you for not catching
the problem!  Being a cheerleader and holding her had while her baby starved
would not be the appropriate action even though where she is in her mind
right now, she does not know that.  At some point, she will realize how
important your information and help really was.  She may never feel confident
enough to let you know that, but trust me, she will one day know that you
were putting her baby and her health where they belonged...first.

Take care, have a cup of tea and know that these things happen totally
unrelated to your skills, your capacity for caring and your abilities.  It is
all part of the process of denial....I know because I go there sometimes
still....

Best,
