One thing I have observed with regard to the asymmetrical latch is; that if
the mother guides the baby to her breast holding the baby's head this latch
cannot be achieved.
If the mother guides the baby with it's neck, shoulders and spine then this
latch can be achieved.  Then what you will see is that the baby will have a
slight tipping back of their head, similar to what you would observe when the
baby is in the side line position.  Now the chin is well into the breast
tissue with the nose near but not buried into the breast.
I am not sure where this got started but almost every mother and most nurses
want to push the head into the breast.
