I know that giving water before commencing solids is not necessary. But
I thought I had read somewhere that even giving water could change the
the gut flora in an exclusively breastfed infant (and therefore cause
some damage). I looked in Marsha Walker's "Just One Bottle" but
couldn't see any comment about water in particular. Is this true or is
it false...and if it is true does anyone have an online reference for
not giving water other than "it's not necessary"?

Thanks in advance!
