Dear Winnie, I thank you for your nice post. We are the hosts, and I, as an
original listmother, and founder of Lactnet, can speak for the rest in
saying this very huge thank you. We do our best to keep the list on topic,
which saves the dilution of our efforts if we did allow the introduction of
adjunct topics such as immunization, circumcision, etc. Although these
topics are very interesting and controversial, and good discussion sparks,
they do cause a spin, and a dilution of our efforts to support breastfeeding.

Since 1995, I have been working as a volunteer for Lactnet. In March, it
will be 7 years of daily volunteer work for me. I also volunteer for other
things, my kids' schools, orchestras, and if you are interested, check out
the url in my signature and see how my high school daughter has volunteered
and raised more than $2000 for her local orchestra building fund.

It is mostly a pleasure, and only occasionally a thorn in my side. I smile
when I think that mothers in every corner of the world are helped by our
efforts, as I sit at my computer watching the snow fall, in Northern
Vermont. It is lovely that an African LC can help a nursing student in N.
Dakota learn about HIV and bf. It is lovely that we can brainstorm on
difficult cases where we have run out of ideas ourselves. And it is lovely
to see our practice verified and backed up by evidence, and that evidence
and lactation science discussed here among professionals of all venues.

I am lucky to have such good colleagues in Kathy, Rachel, Melissa, and
Karen...as we work on things day to day.

Thanks for the nice note. It makes it all worth while. We have those who
don't like the list, who complain it's changed over the years. It certainly
has changed, but we have tried to help it grow older with grace, taking the
high road as often as we can. Salut.

Warmly, Kathleen
