I am currently nomail due to my impending "big move" so I would appreciate
replies by private email.

A client has asked me for advice regarding her son. 10-month stats:

Length: 44 cm (27.5 inches)
Weight: 7.22 kg (15 lb. 14 oz.)

Below the 5th percentile for both, even on the BF baby chart. Baby hasn't
gained any weight in the past 3 months. He had gained a little last month
but lost it during a severe ear infection episode.

The baby's doctor says they have 2 months before she starts doing tests to
see why he's so small (he's also growing slowly in height although his head
is growing at a normal rate). She agrees that he's developmentally normal
but says that his being so far off the growth chart is worrisome. Baby's
father is worried and thinks they are depriving him of vital developmental
resources.

The doctor said start giving him whole milk. Mom has started him on cheese
and yogurt, albeit cautiously because he's reacted rather strongly to milk
in mother's diet in the past (he's still nursing). He seems to take cheese
and yogurt OK, although he's not too excited about either one. Local LLL
suggested upping his yogurt intake but father is opposed--he's worried it
won't sit well on the little Chinese stomach.
(Father is Chinese, mother is not). Parents would like to know what they
can feed the baby that has more
calories than his current favorites (carrots and Cheerios) but that isn't
milk or dairy-based.

I tried Lactnet searches but found little...perhaps I'm not using the right
search keyword, etc. LLL pages also no help. Anyone?
