Kathy,

I *love* these answers. Could someone please print these up give
permission to someone/everyone else to do so and just hand people a
business card size card with these snappy answers?

Subject: snappy answers

[Answers to] Are you STILL nursing?

1. "The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a MINIMUM of one
year" ("and we haven't even reached that yet," or "and we're only two
months past the minimum" etc. etc.)

2. "The World Health Organization recommends that all babies in the
world be breastfed for a MINIMUM of two years" ("and we're only half-way
there," or "we're not even there yet" or "and we're only two months past
the minimum" etc. etc.)

3. "My pediatrician recommends that I continue breastfeeding, because
he is growing so well and has been so healthy." ("And I always follow
my pediatrician's advice.")

4. "Kathy Dettwyler's research shows lots of children IN THE US who are
breastfeeding beyond age 3, even as long as nine years of age" ("though
I don't think we'll be nursing that long.")

5. "Michael Jordan breastfed for 3 years, and my child deserves at
least as much as he does. We're hoping he'll be an outstanding athlete
also."

6. "The longer a child is breastfed, the higher their IQ. We're hoping
little John/Jane will be a nuclear physicist. You know, Kathy Dettwyler
nursed her daughter Miranda for 4 years, and Miranda is now in graduate
school, studying nuclear physics." (true statement)

7. "I'm worried about breast cancer, so I'm going to breastfeed as long
as my child is willing."
