>I happen to think that Teenagers should not get pregnant if they are not
>planning to eat a nutritious diet.
(read in recent digest, as I was cleaning up my mailbox)

I don't know that teenagers (or anyone else
for that matter) thinks alot about nutrition when they are in the "moment" of
conceiving a baby. It is statements like this that make the teen moms I work
with crazy. We jokingly refer to them as "teenisms".
This statement seems to imply planning of pregnancy, which in a perfect world
might well be the case. For many women learning to eat right and feed their
families in a nutritious way is a steep learning curve. Breastfeeding is a
great place to start, and many young moms make huge efforts in this
regard, however, statements like this may make a young mom give up
breastfeeding because her diet is less than perfect. I am sure we all agree
that would be less then an ideal solution. I know lots of teen moms that eat
very well and lots of older moms that don't, so we need to be aware of our use
of language and of avoiding generalizations.

OKOK I'm off my soapbox, but I have worked with adolescent moms for four
years and have learned from them all those things that make them
crazy....and feel compelled to give them a voice.
