OK -- this is an issue that is confusing to everyone. (Well, maybe just
some people). But I want to know, where is it written that the IBCLC cannot
prescribe/advise/recommend use of herbal/homeopathic/OTC remedies? Or
cabbage. Or supplements. Or a nap for the mother. (Or a nap for me, for
that matter!)

Jan B -- wanting definitive guidelines in Wheaton

Here, here!!! I agree with Jan on this one. Not everything in the world needs to
be handled with "prescription" drugs. Now we may argue that an herb is a drug,
or we may argue that it is a food. Who among us does not reccomend a healthy
diet to our clients???

Now, what if we suggest the addition of sage to that diet? Are we then
prescribing "drugs?"

There is no one answer here and, I for one, do not wish to have a gag order
issued on what I can tell moms about what I know.

Susan
