Hi Autumn. I hope you are able to connect with a good Mentor as that is so
helpful and your development as a lactation consultant will grow by Leaps
and Bounds. As for your client with the oversupply, that does predispose to
mastitis; all of the symptoms point to that for me. Since it's been so
bothersome I would recommend a skin and milk culture to identify the
offending organism. During this time I would not recommend skipping or
going long periods of time without expressing. But once resolved she can do
"full drainage block feeding." Start with a shorter block like 4 hours and
express to comfort but not fully when she's trying to Tamp down her Supply.
