it make sense though in a very basic way.

zinc deficiency is a common cause of loss of appetite.  if you don't
eat, you don't get zinc.  if you don't get zinc, your appetite goes
diminishes.

starting feeding....zinc status improves, appetite returns.

just one of the many possibilities for a mechanism.
