Karleen and all,
I have worked in maternity hospitals large and small/ private and public/
rural and urban for 26 years in NSW in Australia.
The only women I have seen tested for drugs were tested by the D+ A service
as they were already clients.
I don't think a cone or 2 is the midwives, paeds or child and family health
nurses main concern, and certainly not DOCS. It wouldn't even register as
ROSH ( risk of significant harm) on their mandatory reporter guide if it was
solely yarndi. We encourage breastfeeding with yarndi, methadone, subutex
etc. I must admit we don't have much experience with ice where I've worked
the last 10 years, though I'm sure it won't be long.
I also don't think you would find the staff would accept universal drug
screening, nor would the government pay for it!

Louise
