Carrie,
What a quandry to be in, darned if you do and darned if you don't. I'm
starting in a new hospital-based LC position (coming in from the outside
because they couldn't figure out a way to take any of the RN/IBCLC's off
staffing) and I was told to wear street clothes with a lab coat. Staff
mostly wears scrubs as you describe, even the head of women's services
sometimes does. A nurse who works PRN is sharing the position with me
and she has been told the same thing as I have about dress. I know the
clothes will set us apart, but we are doing a different job from the rest
of the staff. I'm not a nurse, so I won't even be able to get pulled
into helping with "nurse" jobs.

Good luck navigating the waters.
