Rhoda, and anyone else who likes the term lactosaurus - it is not a new term. I first heard it at the 30th anniversary meeting of Ammehjelpen, the Norwegian mother-to-mother support organization. That was in 1998, and it was Elisabet Helsing who coined it. The full name of this dinosaur is 'lactosaurus supportiva regina' and I think Elisabeth was using it on those who were being recognized for active membership of at least 20 years. I've mentioned it on Lactnet before, and when Elisabet attended LLL's 50th anniversary celebration she was approached by at least one Lactnetter who mentioned the word. I am sorry I don't remember the name of that person as I write this - I will probably be mortified if you identify yourself because I should be able to recall these things. Must be my dinosaur brain, after achieving lactosaurus status six years ago.

Please use it and please honor Elisabet by so doing. She worked for years at WHO's offices in Copenhagen where she was an author of 'Infant feeding in emergencies', and she holds the Gold Medal of Service of the King of Norway for her international work supporting breastfeeding. She wrote the first proper book in Norwegian for mothers about breastfeeding. She has a very solid trust in mother-to-mother help as the gold standard - this, from an academically distinguished nutritionist. Need I say that she is another of the many beacons in the world of breastfeeding who is not an IBCLC?

cheers from a lactosaurus sitting on the good ship the Margalo in the marina at Thyborøn, Denmark, using Margalo's own WiFi to send this!
