Dear Lactnetters:

I am writing to announce a new internet group for lactation specialists
of all kinds-- La Leche League Leaders, IBCLCs, and others who either are
Muslim themselves or who are not Muslim but work with Muslim mothers.
This list will focus on the cultural and language challenges of helping
Muslim women breastfeed, including but not limited to issues of modesty,
religious values and legalities regarding breastfeeding, cultural
considerations in counseling, and language barriers.  It will also serve
as a meeting place for specialists who are working on developing and
translating breastfeeding-related materials into Arabic.  Anyone with a
focus on other languages (Urdu, Persian/Farsi, Turkish, etc.) is also
welcome.

All who wish to join must be approved by the list owner/moderator. All
who wish to subscribe will be asked to submit a short introduction to the
owner/moderator before approval.  If you are admitted to the list, the
introduction will be posted to the list to introduce you to the group.

Please note: This list is for lactation specialists ONLY.  This is not a
list for non-specialists to seek advice about personal breastfeeding
issues.  If you are a non-specialist Muslim mom looking for advice about
breastfeeding and mothering issues, there are two Yahoo!Groups you may be
interested in:  Birthalternative is a list for Muslim women only to
discuss natural childbirth, breastfeeding, and attachment parenting.
MuslimahBreastfeedingSupport is for breastfeeding only.
