We use the LATCH tool. Putting the tool on the newborn flow sheet has
helped compliance and given the nurses more to think about each time they
chart....

Subject: NACLNC Conference [bcc][faked-from]

I will be attending the National Alliance of Certified Legal Nurse
Consultants 2005 Annual Conference March 11-13 in New Orleans. There will
be a session on Spotting the Medical-Legal Pitfalls in Breastfeeding
Mismanagement Cases by Judith Hettesheimer, RN,BSN,CLNC. Has anyone
attended any Legal Nurse Consultant Conferences? Has anyone heard
presentations by this individual? I have been an IBCLC (RN in hospital)
times 17 years now and trying to find out what other professions say about
breastfeeding.
I am in a new hospital setting and we are trying to develop new brief
breastfeeding assessment documentation. Unfortunately, valuable tools like
LATCH scoring is not received well by nurses wishing to put in minutes or
good, fair, poor breastfeeds. Could fellow IBCLC's in hospital based
programs share what documentation for breastfeeding assessment is working
well in their units?
Thank you very much for your input on these two items.
Martha Gregory RN, IBCLC
