I tend to describe in terms of emptiness of the breast and the resultant strength of signal to make more milk...and factoring in frequency also. But I'm usually speaking in terms of relactation and in many instances this is with women who are pumping only (and hand expressing, which is a great driver because it can remove milk not accessible via a pump).
