Thank you, Lara!
I was already wondering... if it is indeed SO hard to make vitamin D by
being outside in a normal way and not half-naked until almost being
sunburnt... how could people ever have been non-deficient?!
Those in favour of vastly supplementing whole populations... how do you
explain this? What has changed so dramatically over the course of which
number of years for us to now all be in danger of breaking our bones?
Wouldn't it be preferable by far to figure out how much daylight we need and
which fats and other foods to eat, to get a healthy level *without*
supplementing?
Supplementing is common, but it is not normal. Supplementation is fighting
symptoms of unhealthy behaviour. What behaviour would make for a turn for
the better?
It is funny indeed... In the Netherlands D-recommendations have become
*less* panicky these last years! Quite a story on borstvoeding.com, about a
quarter of an hour per day being enough, when combined with a good
nutritional status.
I think Lara is absolutely right to put question marks to this and to be
suspicious about the intentions of the pharmaceutical industry behind it...

Warmly,

Marianne Vanderveen IBCLC, Netherlands
