Wendy Funk writes about a baby with FTT whose mom has oversupply. I agree
with the "finish the first breast first" or switching breast at next feeding,
and breast compression ideas.
My first thought, however, was "has anyone seen the mom nurse her baby?"
Is it possible that baby is a weak sucker, or really inefficient nurser?
Babies can spend all day at the breast but if their compression of the ducts
isn't good, they're not going to gain weight. And since the mom is pumping
large quantities, it isn't possible to gauge whether the supply is being
demanded by the PUMP or by the BABY! Having lots of milk in the freezer
doesn't mean that baby is eating lots.
How is baby's stooling and urinating? Have absorption diseases been ruled
out?
Let us know how this turns out. I am helping a mom with oversupply and
over-active let-down, but her baby is *huge*. Main symptom of oversupply in
her case is the green frothy stools, gastric distress, and pulling off the
breast.
