Hi to all

Subject: prolactin induced migraine?

>If you have ever heard of such a thing and can offer advice, please
>write.
Yes I just had a patient with this type of a headache. She delivered this spring
and began having severe headacheright after the birth, The headaches were not
epidural related. These headaches were worse at night when the prolactin level
is higher,When I talked with her she said the headache would ease after she
began nursing This mother was not even out of bed for the first week she was
home. This mother is an M.D..

>After visits to neurologist and series of tests including MRI, full
>bloods, carotid artery scan, the neurologist's diagnosis was "prolactin
>induced migraine"
My patient had all of the above test done also. In fact her headache was so
severe she had the MRI done on a sunday night at 10 pm . All her test came back
negative.
> She is 31, fourth baby,

My patient was 35 and this was her 4th baby.

The migraines began to lessen in severity at about 4 weeks and by 6 weeks the
migraines were tolerable and infrequent but they were always related to
breastfeeding, i.e. if she did extra pumping

This mother is still breastfeeding and really doing very well now that her baby
is about 3-4 months old.
There is an article in JHL in about 92 authored by Ginna Wall.
