We have a NICU baby born at 26 weeks, who is now 29 weeks. I asked the
attending nurse today if baby was getting any breastmilk. She said "oh, yes, she
gets her mother's FROZEN breastmilk because freezing kills CMV". I asked if
the mother was tested for CMV and the nurse said no. She said the doctor
does this practice as a protocol for any baby less than 32 weeks. Once they
get to 32 weeks, they can have FRESH breastmilk. Is this common practice in
all NICU's?? All you NICU LC's out there, please respond to me privately if
you want or any of the neonatologists out there. Would love your two cents
worth. TIA. Loni Denman
