I look forward to hearing the experts on lactnet respond to your query
concerning proof of colonization of yeast in milk ducts.

From my own experience with moms, I have had a couple who had bleeding from
inside the breast not due to nipple trauma, and suspicious yeast histories.
Treatment with diflucan cleared up the symptoms (topical treatment did not).
I'm not talking about rusty-pipe syndrome, which occurs early postpartum,
but incidents a few months down the line. It makes sense to me that yeast
may have colonized in the ducts, because yeast breaks down the integrity of
the epidermis, creating raw and sometimes bleeding spots.
