Dear Lactnetters,
My name is Meira Saks. I am a La Leche League leader in Bensalem Pa. for the
last five years. I have been associated with LLL for 14 years since the
birth of my oldest child. I have five living children Ari
3/82,Rachel10/83,Dani 10/86, Reena1/89 and Eliana 7/94. I lost a child at six
months of age to holoprosencephaly caused by chromosome 18p-. I am married to
my husband Moshe-18yrs.
I have been following with interest your discussion on thrush. Someone
requested information about treatment. Though I am not nearly as
knowledgable as the wonderfuly talented LC's,R.N.'s and M.D.'swho post on
this list. I did find the use of Clotrimazole(sp?) mixed with glycerine and
swabbed on the breast (Ihad splotches all over the breast not just the nipple
and areola. My baby 12 mos of age at the time presented first with the
characteristic white batting iin the mouth she was successfuly treated with
Nyastatin. The Nyastatin did not work for me at all! Kay Hoover suggested
the Clotrimazole lozenge (that I ground up myself with the mortar and pistle
loaned to me by the pharmacy-they would not do it themselves) and glycerine I
swabbed two separate times and it worked almost immediately!Yay Kay! her
suggestions and expertise have been amazing and awe inspiring, I Also
discovered that I had a wicked vaginal yeast infection (I was asymptomatic)
that was treated with terazol. I have such admiration for all you hard
working LC's and health professionals your role fighting for Bfdg Ed. and
baby friendly protocol is so challenging and frustrating in comparison it
feels that our role as leaders is easy by comparison (and I know it is not)
With true admiration for all your collective dilligence and expertise Hang in
there! Meira Saks LLLL
