Hey Netters,

I know, I had all this time to spend on lactnet, what happened. I am due
back at work next monday when disability ends. (as all of you know, you end
up still working even though you have off because the piles, faxes, mail,
etc. conti. to grow) I just wish the headaches would stay away. Do you think
cabbage would work???
I know some of this is old posts, but I am only on Feb 2 so be patient with
me.
-in regards to allergies and plastic parts, in my 12 years of working with
medela and other pump co., I have never had one complaint of allergies. I
have had people with reddened areas around areola, due to the friction, not
allergy. Simple application of USP modified lanolin fixes that. (no, I'm not
trying to sell lanolin, I as well as many others have found it very effective
for friction and larger nipples when pumping)
-reselling breast pumps or parts. Manufactures do not back up any liability
in reselling so the person reselling the pump may do so at his/her own risk
and liability. I sure would not do it.
Linda Smith, I can not stop thinking about the sports/exercising and the
discomfort (pain) similarities as birthing a child. Like you, I was a
competitive swimmer (for 10yrs). I remember well swimming the mile and that
overwelming pain at the end, but learning how to relax certain muscles to
continue on with speed at the end. And yes Jan, that incredible rush you get
at the end. During my wonderful birthing experiences (last one 11yrs ago,
delivered in a birthing room, walked around-nurses swore I was going to
deliver on the floor, delivered in a squatting position with my oldest
daughter present and no episiotomy. Amazing, all three and never an
episiotomy!!! Imagine, many of the nurses (and some Dr.s) all peaking their
heads in the door and I am sure they were wondering what outragious thing I
was doing. The point is that I used the same relaxation tecniques as I did
when racing and I felt the same discomfort (pain) too. That wonderful rush
afterwards was also. I still remember one of the L & D nurses saying "PAT,
you have to take in a deep breath and push. I knew I had to control my
breathing by taking in a deep breath, pushing, and slowly letting the air out
so I would not tear. By gosh, it even works. Mind you, it was the one baby
that had an abnormal suck and took her a week to learn how to BF. A very
humbling experience. I nursed her ALL the time up to 1yr and she is an ADD
child. When you all talked about the correlation between feeding and ADD I do
question that. Well that is enough for now, and hopefully I will get caught
up to the current stuff soon.
