There is a set time if the skin contact and the undisturbedness are
meant to be part of compliance with Baby-Friendly recommendations.
They used to say half an hour, or until the first breastfeed has taken
place - but it was whichever comes first, so if baby hadn't started to
suckle by 30 minutes it could then be removed without being in
conflict with the recommendation.

I believe the Norwegian National Hospital have implemented S2S as
standard of care after planned CS, don't know how they handle it if
it's an emergency. Since it is a referral center and has a higher than
average CS rate, it's good they are leading the way on that bit,
anyway.

About logistics, I think it takes re-thinking how we use staff and how
we perceive the mother and baby to get that dealt with. If they are
seen as a unit for whom separation is a serious disturbance, carrying
risks to both of them, it's easier to argue for S2S. If the baby is
seen as requiring its own intensive observation period without regard
to all the things the maternal presence supplies, it's harder.

where there was a full-page color photo on the front page of my local
paper this morning, showing a mother, baby and a good midwife
colleague of mine, on my very own ward, after what the caption called
a 'completely perfect' birth - shot from the mother's head, showing
the midwife between the mother's thighs as they were fixed in
stirrups, mother flat on her back, and midwife holding a very unhappy
looking brand new baby, about to pass it up to the mother.....
aaaiiiiiiiieeee.... all depends on your frame of reference, but I
couldn't even read the article
