I am working to establish an outpatient lactation clinic at our large rural
clinic. An old supply closet is being converted for the purpose. When I
told facilities maintenece I needed a sink to wash my hands, I was told I
could use hand sanitizer instead.
I understand that hand sanitizer is very effective at preventing infection.
I have had the experience that babies do not like the smell of the stuff. I
am concerned about creating an aversive reaction at the breast if my hands
are near the baby and smell of the stuff.
Any experience or advice from others on this issue?
