I am posting with permission for a client with Friedreiche’s Ataxia who is wheelchair bound. She had her first baby in August and after some bumps at the start has been able to exclusively breastfeed. The baby is growing well and this poses a problem as he is getting heavier and he is pushing with his feet.

Her limitations are with hand dexterity and coordination. She says her arm strength is better than average as she uses her arms a lot. Her legs are weak.

I wonder if you would have some ideas about how she can manage the weight and liveliness of her growing baby.

I wondered if using a ring sling would be helpful in managing the baby’s weight and wiggling.

Are there any discussion boards for breastfeeding mothers with disabilities?

I would appreciate your input.
