Gentian Violet can help resolve ductal yeast along with nipple yeast. The
nipple is a "two-way street." If the yeast infection can move from nipple
to ducts, so can good-old GV. I have had several mothers whose yeast
infection was finally resolved with focused treatment with gentian violet,
along with complementary treatments, as all of you have mentioned.

One of my favorite treatments is GV once or twice a day on mother's nipples
and Jack Newman's APNO after all feedings at which GV is not used. If a
mother begins this treatment (along with dietary and other complimentary
treatments) early enough that can be the end of the story. My clients use
the .5% solution, undiluted for as long as it takes to resolve the problem.
Sometimes it is 4 days, often it is more like a week, and sometimes it
takes longer. The amount used is still very small.

I have several family physicians who are now recommending this treatment
plan and are pleased with the outcome. Even a couple of OBs are taking
yeast overgrowth seriously and are interested in this treatment before
bringing out the "big gun", fluconozole. These, of course, are cases in
which the mother doesn't have a history of recurring yeast infections. For
those with such history, I suggest that they use the GV and APNO along with
the fluconozole--again stressing the complementary treatments, which are
especially important in resistant cases.

I agree that Nystatin is a delaying step in the resolution of the infection.
