Quickly......I need advice and ideas on how to help
this Mom.....I'm stumped......I'm Sandey in Atlanta
working with a 30 y/o Mom, 12 days post partum, with
the firmest breat tissue I have run across, maybe
ever! She is a primip, and the baby simply cannot
grasp this firm rounded tissue. She was a small A cup
pre-preg and now is a full "D"......She did experience
full blown lactogenesis last w/e on about day 4-5 and
spent a couple of days with "rock hard" breasts.....I
saw her on Tues and she was still very firm and it
felt like she should of had mega implants in those
firm breasts...but no, nothing that simple. It's just
her phenomely firm breast tissue....No hx of
fibrocystic stuff or nuttin.....
Baby manages to get up to 0.8 oz after 30 minutes
total at the breast(s)...... double/single with
pumping (plus massage..the whole bit)yields
nothing.....no surprise there. A pump is just a
pump.....Nipples are great.... Manual expression
elicits some milk and is much more effective in
producing some milk and softening the brests but it is
a slow go. Baby is being supplemented with AIM, of
course.
Mom is tired/pissed/frustrated and on the verge of
giving up. Other than the tincture of time, what else
can we do?? Baby does mostly non-nutritive sucking on
the breast.....she has a scale, a Lactina,she pumps,
she nurses..... supplementation, and now what???
Please respond to me if you can.....We are slumped
over and out of ideas...
