Debra, you might try looking at the article by O. Spigset titled,
"Anaesthetic Agents and Excretion in Breast Milk," in Acta Anaesthesiol
Scand 1994; 38:94-103. I haven't read the article itself, but it was
covered in Breastfeeding Abstracts, Vol. 14, no. 1, August 1994, p. 4. It
says the author concludes that breastfeeding may begin "as soon as feasible
after surgery without discarding milk." Individual drugs and inhalation
agents are all discussed individually. Maybe a copy of the article would
be of help in convincing these doctors.
