Let me say first that I think the posters are generally fantastic. I like
that they show older baby/children, not just newborns and I am not so upset
that they are not "discreet" (whatever that means to each individual).
However, I am a little concerned about the latch in some of them. We know
that many babies who are nursing very effectively can latch in ways that
may make us cringe when we just look at the latch. In addition, we know
that many older babies can nurse effectively in positions that may not work
well for a new infant. So the nursing dyads in the pictures are probably
doing just fine. What gives me a little concern, however, is that a mother
who looks at the black baby with pursed lips or the twin nursing with its
chin down may assume that these are "proper" or effective latches for any
baby. If her baby latches the same way she may assume it is OK even if she
is having soreness and baby is not getting enough milk. Hopefully, she
will be exposed to many other pictures of nurslings including most who are
"perfectly" latched. However, if these are the ony ones she sees, she may
be getting an unintended message that may interfere with successful
breastfeeding.

Winnie
