When my son, now almost 12, was 6 months old he also had surgery. It was in
a large Army medical center that is now closed. After surgery they said he
needed to have a bottle of water first "in case he vomited". I acquiesced,
not being confident enough at the time to argue. As the hospital was in the
middle of downsizing, they were consolidating floors and had put pediatrics
in with neurosurgery and orthopedics. The nurses could not find a bottle
anywhere on the floor so told me I "would have to go ahead and nurse him
anyway." I remember thinking then that the bottle of water requirement
obviously couldn't have been a vital necessity or they would have worked
alot harder to find a bottle for him!

Of course, I should have known we were in trouble when nurses came from all
over the hospital because they heard there was a baby in the hospital and
they just "had to see the baby"!!
