Catherine,

Thanks for your input about how to deal with moms and physicians are
adamant against clips or other procedures/approaches when a breastfeeding
problem exists. This is precisely the kind of human relations info we can
all use and/or be reminded of.

At age 70, after 6 kids of my own, 11 grandkids, 44 years of MCH (paid)
practice, 5 years of volunteering as LC with WIC since retirement, and
much interaction with MD's during my husband's terminal illness, I am
still amazed at how my relationship with men, developed within my own
family of origin and youth (dad, granddad, uncles, teachers, principals
etc.) gets projected onto so many of my dealings with both male and
female authority figures alike.

Back in those days, "Children were to be seen and not heard." It has
taken several assertiveness courses, and much counseling to gain insight,
and even with "assertiveness scripts", practice in front of mirrors, etc.
etc., I can still feel the "adrenalin butterflies" gripping my innards
when anything resembling confrontation arises!

My husband was raised under like circumstances, and sometimes considered
me a renegade for considering disagreeing with health professionals.
During the vulnerability of new motherhood, I could never have done it
without a humongous amount of moral support from other likeminded women!

Jean
