One more thought on drugs in breastmilk. I had a wise LC once remind me that ANY
drug can affect ANY baby. I think it's always a risk. Some drugs are much safer
than others. But it's always a guessing game and we never know for sure what is
going to happens. We know that the bioavailability of Colace is very low. But if
the moms is taking large amounts everyday, and this is a baby that weight 5 lb. 4
oz. I have to wonder if it's possible that enough of the drug is getting through
in the baby's system to be having some affect on her. My thinking is that if this
is a drug that goes into the intestines and softens the stools, could it possibly
be blocking some of the absorption of nutrients in the intestines, and thus
resulting in a slower weight gain?

I think that the whole breastfeeding relationship is a delicate balance between
mother and baby and sometimes even seemingly trivial things can throw it off.
