Just heard Diana Cassar-Uhl give a great presentation at the Indianapolis
conference re: Vit D.

MOST women do not have enough Vit D in their system. MOST women do not get
enough exposure to (non-sunscreen-protected) sunlight, which is the way our
bodies are designed to be getting their Vitamin D. Vitamin D is a
"pre-hormone," not really a "vitamin," but that latter label makes us think
that eating certain foods or taking certain supplements are where we
"should" be getting Vit D.

But my note-scribbling happened when Diana told us that while taking large
Vit D doses by Mom *will* increase the levels found in her breastmilk, it
takes 2-3 months for the end result to show up.

So we really need to get pregnant women who are Vit D deficient (and who's
"grading system" are we using ....?) taking their [mega-?]supplements in
pregnancy so they are ready once the babe is borne to have plenty of Vit D
in their breastmilk.

Which *all* boils down to this: if ped is saying baby needs Vit D **now**
then boosting Mom's Vit D intake won't make it happen **now** for baby.
