I am posting with permission of the mother. A nursing mother of a 7mo
infant was lifting something out of her over the range microwave when hot
water spilled out of the dish onto her left breast. She has a second degree
(blistered) burn about 3 inches by 1.5 inches on the top of her breast,
stopping just before the areola. The baby has rubbed the blisters off. It
is extremely painful and she is getting very conflicting information about
how to treat it (neosporin v. lansinoh, moist dressing v. dry dressing, with
all of the usual "you can't use that -- you need to wean" :-P ) Do any of
you have any recommendations for how to best treat this burn, prevent
infection (it is now raw skin), keep the baby from messing with it, and ease
the pain?

Thanks so much for your knowledge and experience,
Melanie Young
