Anne,
La Leche League is a volunteer, mother-to-mother support group. Leaders are,
first of all, mothers; most have small children at home. They have been
specially trained to help mothers with breastfeeding, both normal and more
challenging situations. They are supported by an Area Professional Liaison
Leader(s) who can provide more detailed information regarding medical
situations, medications, etc. when the Leader needs further information in
order to help the mother.  Home visits are not a required part of Leadership;
some Leaders will provide those, at no cost to the mother. But you will
find, in many areas, that if the mother needs a home visit, the Leader will
refer her to an IBCLC.

I would encourage you, Anne, to seek out the LLL group in your area, and
attend the monthly meetings. It will give you an excellent view of La Leche
League and the reason they are considered the world's foremost experts on
breastfeeding.
